Arabian Sea: India Navy Responds To Hijack Attempt On Liberian-Flagged Vessel

The Indian navy is actively addressing a reported hijacking attempt on a Liberian-flagged vessel in the Arabian Sea, with a warship en route, and aerial surveillance closely monitoring the situation.

In an official statement released on Friday, the navy stated that it swiftly responded to a maritime incident involving an attempted hijacking of a bulk carrier ship in the Arabian Sea.

The MV Lila Norfolk, which reported the incident via the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations portal, indicated that five to six unidentified armed individuals had boarded the vessel on Thursday evening.

Reports from Indian media, citing military officials, revealed that at least 15 Indian crew members were on board the hijacked vessel, which was seized near Somalia’s coast.

The navy emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of merchant shipping in the region, collaborating with international partners and friendly foreign countries. This response comes as the Indian Navy intensifies surveillance in the Arabian Sea following a series of recent attacks in the region.

Earlier this week, the navy had reported increased scrutiny, including the investigation of numerous fishing vessels and the boarding of vessels of interest in the north and central Arabian Sea.
