Betta Edu and Predecessor Sadiya Umar-Farouq Passports Seized by EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action in the ongoing investigations into scandals within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Passports belonging to the suspended Minister, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, have been seized by the EFCC.

Edu, currently facing questioning at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, is being investigated for her alleged involvement in a N44 billion fraud within the ministry.

The scandal unfolded following a leaked memo detailing the transfer of N585 million to a private account, sparking further inquiries into the matter.

Meanwhile, Umar-Farouq was questioned for 12 hours on Monday in connection with the alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure.

Both Edu and the former minister had their passports seized as a precautionary measure to prevent any attempt to leave the country during the ongoing investigation.
