Colombia set up England 1/4 final clash in Women’s World Cup

Colombia on Tuesday set up a quarter final clash with England after securing a nervy 1-0 victory over surprise package Jamaica in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Captain Catalina Usme was the heroine for the South Americans, netting the decisive strike in the 51st minute of the encounter played in Melbourne.

The Raggae Girls eliminated Brazil in the group stage and matched the Colombians for the better part of the match.

But they could not find a response to Usme’s goal, the first they conceded in 321 minutes of football and headed home with their heads high after reaching the last 16 stage for the first time in any FIFA organized competition.

The Colombians who will meet one of the tournament favourites England in the quarter final on August 12 will be happy with their performance so far at the FIFA Women’s World Cup  after exceeding expectations to reach the last eight of the competition for the first time in their history.
