EFCC Extends Forex Probe, Summons Dangote Officials To Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned officials from the Dangote Group to Abuja, requesting detailed documents on foreign exchange transactions spanning the past nine years.

The investigation is part of the ongoing probe into the alleged misuse of foreign exchange allocations by the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele.

EFCC operatives recently visited the Dangote Industries Limited headquarters in Lagos, seizing some documents related to forex transactions.

However, as the confiscated documents did not cover all transactions, the officials have been summoned to bring comprehensive records to Abuja.

The search at Dangote’s headquarters involved the confiscation of financial documents related to forex allocations from 2014 to June 2023.

The EFCC had requested 51 firms, including Dangote Group, to submit Form A and Form M detailing forex allocations during the specified period, while some companies complied with the directive, others requested additional time to gather the required documents.
