Failed Sierra Leone Coup: Former President And 79 Others In Police Custody

Following the failed coup attempt on November 26 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, local police have identified a total of 80 suspects.

William Fayia Sellu, the inspector general of Sierra Leonean police, announced at a press conference that the list includes former President Ernest Bai Koroma, aged 50, current military officers, and five discharged military officers, among others.

Sellu disclosed that the ex-president has been granted bail but is confined to his residence in Freetown, while the remaining 79 suspects are held at the criminal investigations department.

The inspector general appealed to the public for information leading to the apprehension of suspects still at large.

On November 26, armed individuals attacked a military barracks, a prison, and various locations in Freetown, resulting in over 20 casualties. The government later characterized the incident as a failed coup.
