Opposition Leader In Burkina Faso Reported Missen

Ablasse Ouedraogo, a former foreign minister turned opposition leader in Burkina Faso, has been reported missen for three days.

According to his party, he was taken from his residence by individuals claiming to be police officers.

Ouedraogo currently heads the opposition party Le Faso Autrement and has been an outspoken critic of the military regime in Burkina Faso, which came to power after a coup in September 2022.

Previously serving as the deputy director general of the World Trade Organization and holding positions at the African Development Bank, Ouedraogo was drafted by the Burkina Faso military in early November to join the fight against terrorism amid the ongoing jihadist insurgency in the country.

His political party condemned the move, alleging it was retaliation for his criticism of the ruling authorities.

Ablasse Ouedraogo, who served as foreign minister under President Blaise Compaore from 1994 to 1999, expressed concerns about the state of democracy and individual liberties in Burkina Faso in an open letter published in early October.
