Tragic Shipwreck: Over 60, Including Nigerians, Feared Lost In Libyan Migrant Boat Disaster

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that at least 61 migrants were missing and presumed dead following the sinking of their boat off the coast of Libya, marking the latest heartbreaking incident in the perilous waters of North Africa.

According to the IOM’s Libya office statement, the migrants are believed to have succumbed to the harsh sea conditions, with high waves overwhelming their vessel after departing from Zuwara on Libya’s northwest coast.

Survivors, who included women and children from Nigeria, The Gambia, and other African nations, estimated that approximately 86 migrants were on board.

Italy, along with Tunisia, continues to serve as a primary departure point for migrants embarking on dangerous sea journeys in the hope of reaching Europe.
